WHAT’S GROWING AT THE ROCKIN M RIVER FARM
LAYING HENS
We have ~100 laying hens of a wide variety of breeds, giving us delicious multi-colored eggs. They are rotated in their chicken tractors on fresh pasture in our orchard, multiple times a day. Our birds are supplemented with a non-gmo, soy-free, organic feed. They are also fed snacks of garden scraps, garden pests, and mealworms.
MARKET GARDEN
We use regenerative practices to grow seasonal fruits and vegetables. We implement organic practices, use no-till methods, and emphasis building healthy soils. We never use any pesticides, herbicides, or synthetic fertilizers. Instead, we prioritize cover cropping to build our soils.
We also grow seasonal, cut flowers!
ORCHARD
We planted over 100 fruit trees in our orchard. Peach, Plum, Pear, Pecan, Persimmon, Apple, Fig, and Pomegranate varieties, all suitable for our climate here in Central Texas.
Our trees are planted in 600’ rows with “runs” between them. It is here, between the fruit trees that we rotate our animals. This ensures they always have fresh pasture, we are never overgrazing, and it builds our soil health.
FARM DOGS
RANGER AND SCOUT
Ranger Doug is a Komondor X Anatolian Shepherd and Scout is a Great Pyrenees. Both dogs were rescued from Bluebonnet Animal Rescue Network outside of Dallas, TX. These sweet LGD help us keep our herds secure and also provide the farm with silly antics.
